A bad influence
Updated: Mar 27
Guys I’m officially an adult….well at least I feel like I should be; I got the keys to my very own flat on Thursday!!
If you read this or this you’ll know that I’ve hated the flat hunting and buying process but now that I have keys in hand it is a thousand times more exciting. So what does this have to do with the title of this post? Well as soon as I knew the offer had been accepted I could start searching for interior inspiration. This means only one thing…..lots of hours wasted on Pinterest.
My impatience levels have gone through the roof, I want everything done and I want it done now! But lets be realistic that is not going to happen. So I have had to decide what my priority is and what can wait a little bit. It’s probably going to be a year before I have everything the way I want it. I just want to make sure I do it all properly, so I’d rather take my time and live there for a bit before making any major decisions.
For now though I thought I’d share my initial ideas from my Pinterest boards;
As soon as I had the offer accepted I knew my bedroom was high on the priority list as it’s where I will spend the most time. So I know its everywhere right now but I love the pale pink and grey; it keeps the room light and a little bit girly. Since I am living by myself I don’t really have to care about what anyone else likes (although I have reassured the boyfriend that its not going to be fluorescent pink). My bedroom will be where I go to unwind so it just has to be perfect; it is the only decorating I am going to do before moving in. There is paper to be stripped, a carpet to clean and then the walls need to be painted before I move in my furniture. Once this is done I’m moving in; I’ve set myself a target date of next Saturday. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how I get on.
I’m very lucky with this one; I have an wee en-suit and then a main bathroom. My en-suit only needs a coat of paint and a new toilet seat as everything else is in pretty good condition. But the main bathroom I really don’t like. There is nothing wrong with it really, it just isn’t what I would pick. Sadly this isn’t just a lick of paint to fix so I’m going to put this off til later this year. Or at least that’s the plan for now! I keep changing my mind on what I want to do with this space; there seems to be a lot of greys on this board too but I’m toying with the idea of dark blue and white as an alternative…can’t have grey everywhere!
I have an open plan living/kitchen area so if I’m going to do any work in here I will do it all at once. The living space is fine, in fact is nice with its grey carpet and grey and green walls; my temporary furniture will fit in quite nicely as it is. It’s the kitchen that causes me a problem; but that's cause its my job! Any one walking in would think its nice; the cream units and wood effect worktop look good. But when you design kitchens for a living you notice the smallest details. Sadly of all the rooms to do up it is also the most expensive (yes I know people in the right places but its still not free) so I’m putting this off til next year so that I make sure I get it right.
Yes I know, this has nothing to do with my flat but I need some sunshine!! I’ll even just take a city break for a long weekend if that’s what it takes to escape for a little bit. Once I’m settled into the flat I’m hoping to plan a quick break maybe September time and my current favorites are Santorini, Barcelona or Copenhagen. Let’s see how getting settled in goes first though cause I may have spoken too soon on this.
So this is why Pinterest is a bad influence…it is encouraging me to spend money that I don’t have but hey I have a house!! How many people can say that at 25? Yes I am proud of myself and you know what that’s a good thing!
